Making 9:16 AI videos: portrait framing, storyboards and export review

A vertical video is more than a landscape frame cropped down the middle. Character placement, the direction of action and space for platform overlays all affect how a scene reads. Decide where the work will be watched before planning the shots, so important details do not end up outside the frame.

01

Choose the aspect ratio before the storyboard

Moonling AI supports 9:16 portrait and 16:9 landscape creation. Portrait is a useful starting point for a story intended primarily for a phone held upright. Wider settings or relationships among several people may call for landscape. These are different composition choices, not a lossless switch between equivalent views. Choose the frame first, then plan character positions, references and shot sizes around it.

02

Give the portrait frame one clear focus

Let each shot concentrate on a main character, action or piece of information. Keep important expressions, gestures and objects away from the edges. If multiple people appear, describe foreground, background and visual priority. A publishing platform may cover the top, bottom or side of the frame with interface elements, so preview the result where you intend to share it. Use close views for a reaction and purposeful environment shots for context rather than crowding every frame.

03

Watch the complete sequence after assembling it

Good individual shots do not automatically make a coherent sequence. Check gaze, action, space and emotion across cuts. Then ask whether the opening establishes the situation, the turning point is understandable and the ending feels complete. Moonling AI can assemble generated clips and save work to your phone. Watch the saved video full screen, paying attention to faces, clothing, edges and essential text. Current generation features, credit use and export options are shown in the app.

Before publishing a portrait video

  • Is the chosen 9:16 or 16:9 format consistent across the work?
  • Are the main subject and important information easy to see?
  • Have you watched the full result on a phone and previewed the destination platform?

Start with the frame, then design the shots. Use Moonling AI to develop a story that works on the screen your audience will actually use.
